What are skin tags?
This condition is very common and characterised by small benign skin growths which hang off your skin. Although harmless, many people choose to have them surgically removed for cosmetic purposes or if they begin to catch on clothing and or jewellery.
What do skin tags look like?
They present with a few similar characteristics which can be used to identify them from other skin conditions.
They have a smooth, soft texture unlike warts which are not as mobile. They can be knobbly in shape rather than perfect spheres, but they will still be supple and soft to the touch. Skin tags are also not contagious.
They will not spread on areas on friction, unlike warts. if you have a small sudden cluster of growths, it is more likely to be a viral infection not skin growths.
Where do skin tags appear?
Most growths appear in areas of skin on skin friction, such as the neck, armpits, around the groin. However they can also be found in intimate areas like under the breasts, or the folds of the buttocks.
Some skin tags appear on eyelids. We are able to treat them no matter their location on the body.
