“We went to The Lawrence Clinic last year after trying numerous things for our son Riley after he suffered an avulsion fracture 2 years ago. Riley is a true sportsman and represented his school at numerous sporting events, he played rugby league, rugby union, football and cricket. During a game of football, Riley was in a bad tackle and a trip to a & e diagnosed an avulsion fracture. He was in a removable pot for 8 weeks and when it was removed he was discharged by the hospital. However, Riley suffered from pain and began walking funny. He returned to training and started playing rugby and cricket. He couldn’t get through 15 minutes without being in pain. He would come off the pitch limping and saying he felt like there was a needle in his foot, sometimes to the point the pain was so unbearable he had tears in his eyes.
“This was horrible to see by my young athletic son who dreams of becoming a professional sportsman. We looked for some support and got heel raisers for Riley to see if this helped, but it didn’t. Eventually, after speaking to our GP numerous times they sent us for a scan where they diagnosed something which was to do with his growth as Riley is a tall boy for his age but said he would grow out of it within 6 to 12 months. They mentioned physio but said referral would be a while it might be worth it for us to go private. The pain was unbearable for Riley so we decided to go private to see if this helped and after 6 maybe 8 sessions nothing really helped ease the pain for Riley. Riley couldn’t walk 20 minutes without being in pain, he couldn’t play sports which he loved without being in pain but being the sportsman and team player he is, Riley persevered through the pain. Enough was enough for us as parents and we came to see Mr Stanley here at The Lawrence Clinic.
“We took all the relevant information we had from GP, scans and physio. However, Mr Stanley didn’t want to see any of this he wanted to see Riley and make his own decision and diagnosis. The initial consultation Riley came away from there smiling and walking normally. It was a miracle. Riley said he couldn’t feel pain in his feet and for the first time, we felt like someone finally knew what was going on. Riley had some special insoles made to help straighten his feet and align his hips again. After the fracture he had put so much pressure on his good foot he began walking with his feet out which caused his hips to go funny and pain in his back. He also had shin splints. The insoles went into hi top shoes which were recommended for Riley to wear for a number of weeks to help support his ankle and keep his feet straight. After a few weeks, Riley could wear any shoes, “trainers, sports shoes and the insoles were put inside to give support. The Lawrence Clinic and Mr Stanley are miracle workers. Riley is back doing what he loves, playing sports rugby league and cricket with his friend’s pain free which as parents is the best feeling in the world.”
