What is Ostenil Injection Therapy?
Ostenil injection therapy aims to reduce symptoms such as joint pain and stiffness related to osteoarthritis and tendinopathy. Injection therapy can provide significant pain relief, however this course of treatment may not be suitable for everyone.
Before having Ostenil injection therapy, a consultation with our GP Dr Ronnie Banerjee must be undertaken to decide whether this would be suitable for your individual needs. Before your consultation you will be asked to fill out a medical history form.
Thinking about Ostenil Injection Therapy?
During the consultation Dr Banerjee will find out more about the pain you have been experiencing, whether you have any medical conditions, in some cases an ultrasound may be conducted and he will then explain the process of Ostenil injection therapy, any risks associated and the benefits it may have to your specific area of pain/stiffness.
Is Ostenil a steroid?
Ostenil is most certainly not a steroid, it is an artificial copy of the naturally occurring joint lubricant called synovial fluid.
Are Ostenil injections painful?
The overwhelming majority of injections of either Ostenil or Steroid are not painful if done by a well trained injection therapist. There is the discomfort of a needle going into the skin but this is usually the only pain felt by the patient. This is usually to their surprise and most advise it was much less painful than they were anticipating.
Is Ostenil Injection Therapy safe?
They are extremely safe. The likelihood of any reaction is massively less than with a steroid injection.
Are there side-effects of Ostenil Injection Therapy?
There are virtually no side effects though of course as with any injection there is a very small possibility of infection.
