Why do trapped nerves cause pain?
Pain is due to a thickening of the nerve sheath between the affected toes, commonly between the 2nd/3rd or 3rd/4th toes, treatment with a course of cortisone injections may help around 40% of patients,otherwise excision of the neuroma may be indicated.

- Surgery removes nerve through an incision on top of the foot.
- Recovery is generally around 2 weeks, after which patients can begin to return to normal activities and footwear and return to work after a further 2-3 weeks.
