What is Thread Vein Removal?
A tiny sterile needle containing a solution is injected into the thread vein. The solution enters the vein and causes irritation to the lining of the vein.
A slight tingle will be felt for a few seconds. Redness can increase in the area of treatment as the lining of the vein is irritated.
After a short while the sides of the thread vein will either collapse, or swell and stick together, preventing blood flow back into the vein. The collapsed vein is absorbed by the body over a period of time.
This ‘closing down’ process can continue for several weeks or even months after the final treatment. After injection, compression is applied to the treated area using compression dressings. These should be left in place for 2 days and must not get wet. There may be some discomfort or burning at the injection site following the treatment and some clients experience restlessness in their legs during the first few nights after treatment, which is due to the swelling of the walls of the veins.
Initially the veins on the legs will look worse before they get better. And the injection site can look like you’ve had bee stings. After this time, a brownish discolouration of the skin can remain, and in some rare cases may not disappear but in most cases it goes in a few months.
Treatments usually take between 30 and 60 minutes. Many clients will see some improvement after just one treatment. However you may require between 2-6 treatments at 4-8 week intervals.
